The art of reading

We shoud not be naive. Reading is an habit that you have to work on. Why do most of people read? They do it for pleasure and if they don't like the text they give up. That's all, no matter if the text can change the way you see the world. It is like when you watch a movie, you do it because you like it. Mainly, we read to entertain and few times we go beyond the story told. Most of best sellers tend to be thrillers and books focused on fast and easy stories. Sometimes, you find a book difficult to read, with thoughts that make you wonder the nature of human being and the way we behave, but they are not easy to read, you have to push yourself and digging into thick thoughts to pull out your own reflections. Then is when you have to make an effort and commit to yourself to get the best of it. Currently, it is easier to find a wide range of texts everywhere: websites, blogs, news, social media...but they are becoming shorter and empty of content. Basically, they repeat the same idea time and again. It is the same person with different clothes. And at the same time, our capacity to concentrate on reading is decreasing. We are getting used to read short texts with flat content and that's the shape our mind is taking. We read a text, but we don't get what it really means and that make us less critical and more impressionable. So, reading for pleasure is the first step every good reader makes in order to be more independent.
